The sides of the sushi box are figured Makore (West African hardwood).  The top and drawer fronts are Birdseye Maple with a lot figuring.  The drawer fronts were cut from one piece of wood keeping the continuous grain pattern.  Notice the grain pattern near the center drawer pull.  The drawers ae made from Cherry with Wenge splines on the 45-degree miter joints.  Drawers are line in felt.  Notice the inlay of Maple and Makore on the drawer handles and front sides of the box.  Lift the top lid to expose the sushi trays and chopstick rests.  The bottom drawer stores the chopsticks.  The sushi plates are made of Cherry/Babinga feet or Cherry/Maple feet.  All plates are treated with food safe varnish.  The chopstick and chopstick rest are commercially made.  The finish is 5 coats of natural Danish Oil and hand rubbed with paste wax.  Truly a one of kind piece of functional art.  Additional photos can be sent via email if more details are desired.
